Caution pet owners…..rattlesnake season is here!

At Advanced Veterinary Care of San Elijo we have had two patients bitten by rattlesnakes just within the last week. We recommend the following precautions to keep your pet safe from rattlesnake envenomation:

  1. Keep your dogs on a leash at all times while walking or hiking.
  2. Walk your dog in the middle of the walkway or trail and keep an eye out for snakes on or beside the trail.
  3. Avoid letting your pet explore areas with brush, tall grass, rocks, and logs.
  4. Keep your yard neat and uncluttered to avoid unwanted reptile guests.
  5. Avoid using bird feeders which attract rodents (and consequently snakes) during the spring and summer.

In the event that your pet is bitten by a rattlesnake seek immediate veterinary care! The doctors at Advanced Veterinary Care are very experienced in treating rattlesnake bites. We are prepared to provide the care that your pet needs, including administration of anti-venin.

Please call our office if you have any questions regarding rattlesnake bite prevention, treatment or vaccination. 760-736-3636
