Sounds like some investigation of Logan Jenkins of the San Diego Union Tribune; brings into question the data used in U.S. News & World Report that ranked San Marcos High School as the 3rd best high school in California and 11th nationwide.

Logan Jenkins of the San Diego Union Tribune Writes:

The ranking is too good to be true because, well, it’s not based on accurate information. U.S. News & World Report consulted a federal database that blew a couple of key facts about the local high school. First of all, the senior class was tabulated at 79, which is pretty weird since the junior class had 818 students. According to Kevin Holt, San Marcos superintendent, the 897 total for the two classes combined is correct but the breakdown is way out of whack.
