A grand opening ceremony is planned for Double Peak Park in San Elijo Hills/San Marcos on Friday, June 19 at 4 pm. The much-anticipated park will provide access to the largest public open space area in San Marcos. The 230-acre active open space area is located off San Elijo Road and Double Peak Drive and has sweeping views of San Marcos and surrounding area, including a breathtaking look at the Pacific Ocean.

The park is largely a natural, passive park with complementary amenities including several observation areas, a natural amphitheatre, interpretive kiosks, adventure play equipment, shade structure, picnic tables, caretaker’s residence, restrooms and parking.

Trails connecting with the Ridgeline Trail and Discovery Lake are also part of the park development.

Double Peak Park is one of five new parks being added by the City. Prior to Double Peak Park, the City opened Hollandia Park in October 2008, which is one of the largest active parks in San Marcos. The 19-acre Sunset Park in the western portion of San Marcos is currently under construction and slated to open in Winter 2010.

Double Peak Park’s construction is being funded through a development agreement with San Elijo Hills Corporation. The City contributed some of the recreational amenities such as the shaded picnic area, the adventure play equipment and the interpretive kiosks.
