SAN MARCOS: A San Elijo family whose home was looted during fire evacuations was hit again – except this time the burglars cleaned them out.

The residents returned to their home on Orion Way on Saturday after being gone for the night and found clothing, shoes, living room furniture, lawn chairs, a mattress and baby crib gone, said sheriff’s Sgt. Kelly Stuart.

The burglars even swiped the washing machine. The family told deputies they evacuated their home between Oct. 22 and 24 because of the wildfires. When they returned, they discovered jewelry and other small items missing, including a spare set of house keys.

The burglars probably used that set of keys to finish the job Friday night or Saturday morning, Stuart said. There was no sign of a break-in.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200.
