San Elijo Hills Summer Fiesta: Saturday, June 15th 

It’s fiesta time! The sun is shining and the grills are sizzlin’! Come join us on
Saturday, June 15th from 1:00PM-4:00PM for a Summer Fiesta! The event will be held at the lower softball field of San Elijo Park.

Activities will include crafts, waterslides, a festive mariachi band and other fun surprises! Don’t forget to bring your sunscreen and swim suits!

Traditional Mexican fare will be served, including tacos, rice, beans, dessert, and non-alcoholic margaritas!

This free event is for San Elijo Hills residents only. Please remember to bring a proof of residency to gain entrance into the event (i.e.: driver’s license with on-site address, utility bill, HOA statement, etc.). Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow you to enter the event without verifying residency. No guests will be permitted.

Movie Under the Stars- Part 1: Friday, June 21st

The San Elijo Hills Community Association is hosting a FREE showing of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax as part of our summer movie series!

Get ready to watch Ted encounter a grouchy forest creature (The Lorax) after venturing outside of his artificial city in search of a tree. Characters are voiced by Zac Efron, Danny DeVito, Taylor Swift, and many more!

The movie will be shown on Friday, June 21st at the lower softball field of San Elijo Park. Pre-show activities (including bounce houses, a sticky wall and more!) will begin at 6:00PM and the movie will start at sunset (around 8:00PM). Remember to bring your low-back beach chairs and blankets for lawn seating! A few awesome food trucks will be there and will have a variety of refreshments available for purchase.

On Wednesday, June 19, City Manager Jack Griffin will meet with the San Marcos Economic Development Corporation (SMEDC) to deliver a message on the community’s fiscal health and plans for the City’s future.

While the economy may still be sluggish and challenges at the state and federal level remain, Griffin has explained that San Marcos has positioned itself very well through the economic downturn and therefore has a stable budget.

“Ultimately, our strong foundation will help us continue to provide quality services while still preparing for our future,” said Griffin.

Griffin is expected to discuss the City’s future, which calls for three keystone developments in San Marcos: the San Marcos Creek District, University District and Palomar Station. Significant progress has already been made on the University District and Palomar Station broke ground in May. The Creek District has been slower to materialize due to redevelopment cuts and the economic situation.

The City also plans to ramp up its economic development efforts in hopes of bringing new business and jobs to the area. San Marcos is participating in a five-city initiative to brand the region with Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside and Vista.

Charles Zahl, director and treasurer of SoCal Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Development Inc. will also speak at the meeting to provide an update on the San Marcos Wireless Health Incubator Program. The program is designed to connect entrepreneurs with mentors, support services and access to start-up capital so that new business can be successful. As North County’s education hub, the City has a rich pool of intellectual capital making San Marcos an ideal host to incubator programs and new businesses that will add jobs to the region.

In response to changing demographics and evolving travel patterns, the Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin afternoon ramp metering for the westbound entrance ramps on SR 78 from Nordahl Road to Sycamore Avenue between 3 and 7 pm. Motorists may experience slight delays during metering periods at effected westbound freeway on-ramps. 
The westbound metering activation schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, June 12
• Sycamore Avenue to SR 78 (Vista)
• Rancho Santa Fe Road to SR 78 (San Marcos)
• Las Posas Road to SR 78 (San Marcos)

Wednesday, June 19
• San Marcos Boulevard southbound to SR 78 (San Marcos)
• San Marco Boulevard northbound to SR 78 (San Marcos)
• Twin Oaks Valley Road southbound to SR 78 (San Marcos)
• Twin Oaks Valley Road northbound to SR 78 (San Marcos)

Wednesday, June 26
• East Barham Drive to SR 78 (San Marcos)
• Nordahl Road to SR 78 (San Marcos)

Ramp metering will decrease the length and severity of traffic congestion for westbound traffic and will improve the overall traffic flow along the SR 78 corridor, ultimately reducing door-to-door travel times.

Board members still discussing school k-8 and boundaries…

The motion APPROVED by the school board is for the recent proposed boundaries to go to the new K-8 school and the boundaries for High School was modified for all San Elijo Hills residents to be attending San Marcos High school.

(Note: boundaries are subject to change at anytime. The High school may be the next change for San Elijo Hills)

The subject is done… The meeting is moving on to other topics.

Next year the new principal will work on core curriculum and including music for k-8.

The board is now speaking on boundaries and expressing the understanding of how special and unique it is.

San Elijo Hills is too big to have all students of SEH go to San Elijo schools.

San Marcos is too big too.

Steve Bawn is one of the districts super star. Highest API scores in district and beyond the district.

A parent is willing to commit a matching program up to 25k to the new K-8. This parent will be anonymous ..
