Mario R. Alvarez, Sr. Cancer Foundation Walk at San Elijo Hills reaches into the community to bring together neighbors, friends, co-workers, and families to celebrate those who have survived cancer and to remember those who have not. It is a festival, a family event, a volunteer driven activity that offers everyone to participate in the fight against cancer— it is about a community and surrounding areas that takes up the fight.
Come on out to the Mario R. Alvarez, Sr. Cancer Foundation Walk on Saturday, June 7, 2008. The Cancer Walk is heightening public awareness about Pancreatic Cancer and raising money to fund the Scripps Genomic Medicine Program. The program supports basic research and clinical programs focused on defining the genes that underlie susceptibility to disease, and will take these findings in to drug discovery programs and ultimately in to clinical trials. The walk site is on the highest point of San Diego North County in a new community, Masterpiece/Symphony Collection of San Elijo Hills. It offers amazing ocean views with a cooling ocean breeze. The 5K Walk will start and end at the model homes and go through a section of the 18-mile network of hiking trails. Festivities including face painting, animal balloon making, craft area, hula hoop contest, high energy DJ, local bands and more fun to come! 8:00 a.m. check-in, 10:00 a.m. walk starts, 10:30 a.m. ‘restaurant row’ opens, and 11:00 a.m. awards presentations begins. The entrance fees are $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Each participant receives an official walk t-shirt.
