MarketWalk is located in the community’s Towncenter on San Elijo Road at Elfin Forest Road. Additionally, sales have commenced for the collection of 12 townhomes situated above the retail spaces and five homes have already been reserved.

Tenants now open for business in the Towncenter include Windmill Cleaners, Postal Annex, Peppertree Hills, a healthy dining and take-out eatery, Dexter’s Deli, a gourmet pet food shop, and Yogurt Utopia. Hometown Realty and the San Elijo Hills Visitor Center will be opening soon. Two retail spaces, totaling approximately 2,200 square feet, remain to be leased.

  1. I heard from a marketplace rep that a wine bar is interested in opening in the corner space (SEH & Elfin Forest). Keep yr fingers crossed (and throw in yr toes if you think it would help).

    1. No can do, from what I understand. No alcohol can be served within 600 ft. (length of 2 football fields) of a school. Would be nice though!!

  2. I could have sworn that i saw an alcohol license application posted in the window of the new cafe in the visitor’s center.

  3. I really hope this goes through – a wine bar would be a great place to walk to.

  4. It will be interesting to see if the city indeed makes an exception to the 600-feet rule for beer/wine. However, hopefully they’ll make a restriction that no alcohol at all can be served until long after school lets out in the afternoon, so that there’s less of a risk of someone leaving the bar and getting into their car “under the influence” while there are still kids walking around the school and townsquare areas.

  5. Ron, the city can grant variances/exceptions as it sees fit in regards to it’s ABC rules/regs. They can also dictate the time period that the license is valid. How restrictive they are usually is determined by a few things i.e. prior license in San Marcos with no violations vs first time applicant, or physical proximity to various features/fixtures ( schools, gun store, etc ). Also, to alleviate any fears of adult behavior, the ABC has more data and statistics that could be mentioned on a blog like this. I suggest supporting the business’ in the town center and letting the city make it’s determination regarding fitness to serve alcohol.

    1. Thanks, and that was basically my point. Just hoping that the city DOES look at the proximity to the school when determining the restrictions — if any — that might accompany a liquor license. I think we’d all agree that our towncenter area already has too many speeding cars, and that adding alcohol consumption to the mix might be dangerous and should be looked at carefully. I’m sure the city will do the right thing, since no one will want to have made the decision that leads to a potential tragedy.

  6. Someone should start a San Elijo electric cab service. Could run people all around SEH and OCR. Get a fleet of GemCars, get high school students to drive people home 🙂
