Telecast part of ceremony just tip of musical iceberg

LOS ANGELES – Last night’s marathon Grammy Awards telecast at the Staples Center was merely the culmination of a weeklong musical celebration. After reigniting its career by regrouping last night, The Police (from left, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers) are expected to announce a nationwide tour today, with a likely stop in San Diego.
Tuesday night, San Diego’s James Moody and fellow saxophone great Phil Woods were honored here at the annual Grammy Salute to Jazz, while on Wednesday, San Elijo Hills-based guitar master Angel Romero was feted at the Grammy Salute to Classical Music.
