Movie Under the Stars Part II! In a city of humanoid animals, a hustling theater impresario’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as its finalists’ find that their lives will never be the same. Sing will be shown on Friday, July 28th at the upper field of San Elijo Hills Park. Pre-show activities will begin at 6:00PM and the movie will start after sunset (around 8:30PM). The movie is provided by San Elijo Hills Community Association (HOA)

Save the Date – BunnyPalooza!

The San Elijo Hills Community Association is having its Annual BUNNYPALOOZA on Saturday, April 8th at the Hilltop field of San Elijo Hills Park.
This year’s event will include an egg hunt, bounce houses, face painting, crafts, photo ops with the Easter bunny, light refreshments, and more! This year we added a DJ! They will provide music, games, and an obstacle course so parents and kids of all ages can enjoy some friendly competition!

BUNNYPALOOZA will begin at 9:30AM and run until 12:00 PM. The Egg Hunt will be split by different age groups in 10 minute increments beginning at 10:00 AM.

Don’t forget to bring your own basket to collect your eggs and a camera to take pictures with the Bunny! Hope to see you there!

Save the date – San Elijo Elementary Country Fair

Yee-haw! Dust off your boots because the 2017 The Country Fair is back and better than ever before! This year it will be co-hosted by Double Peak School and San Elijo Elementary!
The community of San Elijo has grown and so has the fair!! This year’s shindig will be held Friday, May12th from 5pm – 8pm and Saturday, May 13th 11am – 5pm. Yes, you read that right! Twice the time with a lot more fun!
The Fair will be open Friday night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Seek thrills on your favorite carnival rides like the Zipper, Crazy Plane, Umbrella Cars, Cycle Jump, Alligator Alley and more. Plus enjoy food and live music on Friday night. Saturday will feature the new rides. Plus the same fun activities from the past including Pony Rides and Petting Zoo.
The Country Fair committee needs new ranchers (Sponsors) and ranch hands (volunteers for the committee) to help make their biggest fundraiser of the year a good ole-fashioned success. Trails Clean-Up Day

The California Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) is back! The San Elijo Hills trails system is a designated California Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) area, and we need volunteers!

The trail system within San Elijo Hills is such a beloved feature of our community! Please join us on Saturday, April 22nd from 9:00AM-12:00PM to help clean up the trails! Volunteers will meet in the Town Square (by the fountain) of San Elijo Hills at 9:00AM. Walk-ups are welcome but pre-registration helps us with site logistics, so if you know for sure you want to help, please register online in advance. To register beginning April 1st, simply go to cleanupday.org and then look for San Marcos – San Elijo Trails under the Cleanup Sites link.

Community Reminder

Please pick up after your pets and remind your children to do so as well if they are responsible for the dog-walking duties. Pet waste is probably the #1 complaint amongst our residents so please be diligent and keep San Elijo Hills looking and smelling beautiful!

An increase in dogs of leashes has been reported in various neighborhoods.  Pet owners shall at no times allow pets to run unrestrained in common areas, streets, sidewalks or pathway areas and shall at all times have full and complete control over the animal. Please remember there is a $250 fine from the county (San Diego County Code Sec. 63.0102(b)(2)) for unrestrained pets.

The next Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2017, 6:00 pm at the San Elijo Hills REC Center (1105 Elfin Forest Rd., San Marcos, CA 92078).

**Since 2006 SanElijoLife.com provides community news, photos, videos, and a directory of resources for residents of San Elijo Hills. The site is independent from the developer and the HOA and is run by local homeowners.

Annual Tree Lighting Celebration-Tonight!

Tis the season to light up the night! Come celebrate this long standing tradition in San Elijo Hills!

Join us in the Town Square on Friday, December 2nd. Festivities will run from 6:00PM-8:30PM with the tree lighting at 7:00PM.

Here are some fun activities to look forward too!

 Santa and Mrs. Clause will be here for pictures so make sure you are on his “nice” list! Don’t forget to bring your camera!

 Carolers dressed in Dickens-style attire will fill the air with classic holiday tunes.

 A Colorful Universe will have an ornament painting station for only $5.00 per ornament. Stop by to create a one-of-a-kind decoration for your home! They also make great gifts for family.

 Holiday elves will join us to show off their artistic skills with balloons.

 Cookies, cider and hot chocolate will be served to warm your belly!

 Some delicious food trucks will be serving up a variety of specialties available for purchase.

Annual Elections: December 13, 2016

This year’s Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:00PM at the San Elijo Hills Rec Center (1105 Elfin Forest Road, San Marcos, CA 92078).

Neighborhood Representatives are required to attend to the meeting to ensure quorum is established and the votes from their neighborhood are counted. All homeowners are also welcome to attend the meeting. Thank you all in advance for your participation in this process for our community!

Questhaven Park

As a reminder to residents, Questhaven Park is closed at dusk and persons in the park will be cited by the Sheriff. Please be courteous and refrain from entering this area after the park is closed, which often disturbs the residents nearby.

Parking

The Holiday season is upon us! Food, shopping, and school breaks (how are you going to get your shopping done?!) are most likely on your mind. Parking may not be on your radar. Add parking for guests during the Holidays on top of your current parking situation can always be a challenge. Not only is this a good time to think about where to put all those cars, but to consider the Association’s rules and year round parking issues within the community.

• Streets become more crowded when garages and driveways are not utilized for parking. Vehicles should be parked in available garage space first, then parked in the driveway, and then, if necessary, parked in the street.
• Garages shall be used for vehicles and other personal storage only.
• (Section 8.6): No trailer, camper, boat, recreation vehicle, commercial vehicle or similar equipment shall hereafter be permitted to remain upon the property (unless placed or maintained within an enclosed garage) nor permitted to be parked on any street, whether public or private, alley or community common area or project common area within the San Elijo Hills Community other than temporarily for purposes of loading, unloading or cleaning.
Pet Waste

Trash Cans

We appreciate a majority of the homeowners that ensure trash cans are brought in and out on a regular basis!

Please remember that trash cans must be stored behind the side yard fence or in garages. Containers may not be placed outside for pick up before 6:00 p.m. on the day prior to service and must be removed no later than 9:00 p.m. the evening of pick up. In addition, homeowners may not put trash in receptacles that do not belong to them. Trash is collected in San Elijo Hills on Thursdays.

Onsite Office Holiday Hours

In recognition of the holiday season and to give our staff more time with their families, our offices will be closed from Monday, December 26, 2016 through Monday, January 2, 2017.    We will return on Tuesday, January 3, 2017.   If you have an emergency, please call Walters Management at (858) 495-0900 and our on-call staff will address your emergency immediately.   Have a happy holiday season!

Oktoberfest

Prost!! ! Fall is in the air and our most popular event of the year is here!

Come celebrate Oktoberfest with your neighbors on Sunday, October 16th from 3:00PM-6:00PM at the lower softball field of San Elijo Hills Park!

We will be celebrating German traditions through food! Bratwurst, hot links, hot dogs, veggie dogs, potato salad, Caesar salad, sauerkraut, soft pretzels, and apple strudel will be served.
Beverages will include ice water, lemonade, iced tea, and root beer floats!

For all residents 21 and over, a beer garden will also be available (must bring a valid state-issued driver’s license or ID). Four drink tickets will be given per household. No outside alcohol will be permitted into the event.

A lively DJ will be playing some German music mixed in with some modern, family-fun hits that will be sure to get you on your feet and dancing!  Carnival games will be sure to entertain our young residents! We will also have face painting, pumpkin decorating, arts & crafts, a rock climbing wall, bounce house, obstacle course, laser tag, wrecking ball ride, photo booth and much, much more!

Please remember to bring proof of residency to gain entrance into the event (i.e.: driver’s license with on-site address, utility bill, HOA statement, etc.). Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow you to enter the event without verifying residency. If your teens or kids come on their own, please remind them to bring identification.

No guests will be permitted. No pets are permitted.

Recent Burglaries

It has been brought to the Association’s attention that burglaries are on the rise in San Elijo Hills. We did a little digging, and found great resources on sdsheriff.net. Here are some tips off of their website:

Did You Know? The majority of residential crimes are crimes of opportunity, wherein the victims have left their homes unsecured. The opportunity for residential burglary
must be curtailed both individually and collectively through citizens working with local
Law enforcement agencies. Many people who have never been a victim are often less than diligent about securing their homes and safeguarding their property. Unfortunately, thieves seek out these vulnerable opportunities, accessing homes and garages through unlocked doors and windows with minimum effort. The SD County Sheriff estimates from reports that an average burglary only takes 3-5 minutes.

Shut out burlgars-5 Key Components
WHEN APPLIED TOGETHER, THESE FIVE ITEMS SERVE TO HELP
PREVENT RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES.

• Surveillance-The ability for people to see and be seen by day and by night.
• Lighting- Interior and exterior, on timers when it starts to get dark.
• Physical Security- Locks, hardware and structural elements.
• Evidence- of Activity providing a sense of occupancy at all times.
• Neighborhood Watch- Neighbors watching out for each other.

Most law enforcement agencies promote the principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) as the most effective way to confront crime. This environmental approach incorporates the above five key aspects into three specific areas of a residence, each of which is equally important to address.

The Exterior
Included in the exterior category are lighting, landscaping and house numbers. Adequate, appropriate lighting and a well-maintained yard creates an aesthetically pleasing environment while allowing surveillance, defining space and guiding guests on to and out of your property.

The Perimeter
Doors, windows, other entrances and alarm systems comprise the perimeter features. The primary goal is to remove any opportunity for a burglar to gain easy access and to ensure that security hardware and devices are not only adequate, but that they are used consistently.

The Interior
The interior includes all interior factors such as lighting, timers and perceived activity. The goal is to create the sense that someone is home at all times, as most burglars want to avoid confrontation.

By maximizing the security elements in these three environments and maintaining the concepts of the Neighborhood Watch Program, you will enjoy the benefits of a secure home and community. Neighborhoods interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch program should contact the Community Relations Officer with the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station. They will walk you through process, from providing notices for your first meeting, to attending the meeting and discussing concerns with residents. Once a Neighborhood has held their first meeting, and upon submission of a sign in sheet the HOA will provide signs to be displayed in your neighborhood.

San Elijo Hills Community Association Onsite Office

The San Elijo Hills Development Company’s Visitor’s Center is now closed. San Elijo Hills Women’s Club Hoedown in the Hills

Grab your “pardner,” a pal or two, put on your cowboy duds, and join in the fun! San Elijo Hills Women’s Club’s Hoedown in the Hills promises to be an exciting evening of mouth-watering barbeque, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages, toe-tapping music, line dancing, an energetic live auction, and the opportunity to bid on amazing silent auction items throughout the evening, all for only $45 per person. So step right up, purchase your tickets without delay at sehwc.weebly.com, and mark your calendars for Saturday, October 22, 6-10 PM at the Williams Barn in Walnut Grove Park, 1950 Sycamore Drive, San Marcos. All proceeds from this event benefit Straight from the Heart, a local support and outreach organization serving 5000 North County foster children and their families.

Exterior Paint

It’s always a great time to paint your home! Many of the homes are reaching that age for a fresh coat of paint, and San Elijo Hills Homeowners are on the task!

You are permitted to paint the exterior without approval from the Association ONLY if you are painting the same colors currently existing on the home. If you are changing colors on any portion of the house, approval is required. Even if it’s to another scheme in your neighborhood. There are no “pre-approved” list of schemes for any neighborhoods. The Association MAY have a list of colors or the specific color match to the existing homes provided by the prospective builders for each neighborhood.  If you are planning on painting, please provide the Home Improvement Application, paint samples identifying the specific locations they will be applied, and a photo of your home. The Architectural Committee considers the existing color schemes in the neighborhood and how the new colors compliment them.

Questhaven Park

While turf repair is a normal part of maintenance, the rate of deterioration of grass is accelerated when the park is used for commercial purposes or when residents heavily use the grass when it is wet. The Association will close off sections of the park when it rains until the grass is dry.

There have recently been groups continuing to use the field on these closed areas. Please refrain from use of the turf areas when the grass is wet, and please report commercial use to Walters Management. If you are able to provide us with the business contact information, we will be happy to follow-up with the commercial entity in order to protect our parks while suggesting alternatives within the city for their use.

The goal is not to take away opportunities for residents to stay active within the community—we simply want to ensure our parks are readily available for use and enjoyed by all residents without excessive damage and unnecessary closures. The Board of Directors feels strongly that we must continue to work together to ensure that San Elijo Hills is well maintained and continues to be a premier community in North County. Movie in the Park-Part I

The San Elijo Hills Community Association is hosting a FREE showing of Illumination Nation’s Minions (rated PG) as part of our summer movie showings!

Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working for a continual series of unsuccessful masters, from T. Rex to Napoleon. Without a master to grovel for, the Minions fall into a deep depression. But one minion, Kevin, has a plan; accompanied by his pals Stuart and Bob, Kevin sets forth to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. Their search leads them to Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first-ever super-villainess.

Minions will be shown on Friday, June 3rd at the lower softball field of San Elijo Park. Pre-show activities (including bounce houses, bungee run, a sticky wall and more!) will begin at 6:00PM and the movie will start at sunset (around 8:00PM). Remember to bring your low-back beach chairs and blankets for lawn seating! A few food trucks will be there and will have a variety of food & refreshments for purchase.

Foam Party in the Town Square

Come join us in the town square park for a foam party! Dr. Bronner’s Foam truck will be coming out on June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. for a free foam party on the last day of school! The foam is biodegradable and made simply from organic soap, water and compressed air. Take the family down for music, foam, and fun!

Open House Signs

The San Elijo Hills Community Association has a very specific sign policy in place regarding Open House signs in the community implemented to keep our community beautiful!

The San Elijo Hills Community Association’s governing documents prohibit the display of any non-Association signs in the Common Area. The intent of the San Elijo Hills Open House Sign Policy is to (1) provide an acceptable means for homeowners to market homes for sale within the community; (2) reduce the number of open house signs used in the community; and (3) discourage the ‘alternative’ means of signage that have been used in the past (sign spinners, signs on cars, etc).

We are seeing an increasing number of signs with balloons, flags, and riders that are directly in conflict with our policy. Here are some highlights:

*Approved Open House signage is allowed for use on Saturday’s and Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm only.

*No riders, balloons, flags or other attention generating devises may be used with the sign.

*Only one sign directing traffic either left or right may be installed at each corner. The first homeowner or agent to reach an intersection on route to their open house will place their sign at the given location. If another homeowner or agent has an open house along the same route, an additional sign is not needed. Homeowners or agents should continue to the next intersection on route to the open house and place their sign as necessary. In many cases, several open houses can be served by the same directional sign.

It is your responsibility as the homeowner to notify your agent of the policy prior to putting out their signage. If it does not follow the guidelines, it will be removed and disposed of. The Open House Policy can be found on our website www.sanelijohills.net for your convenience. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

9th Annual San Elijo Elementary Country Fair

SEES PTO Proudly Presents the 9th Annual SEES Country Fair

Friday, April 15, 5 – 8 p.m. AND

Saturday, April 16, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Pay it Forward

The Country Fair draws more than 8,000 people from San Elijo Hills and surrounding areas. We need your help to make sure every booth, game and attraction is up and running the day of the Fair! Please sign up to work a shift or two during the event, or to help with set-up or take-down before or after the Fair. With less than a month to go before the big event, we still need volunteers for almost 500 shifts for both days. If every SEES family commits to working just ONE shift, we would easily make our goal! This is SEES largest fundraiser of the year and we really need you to keep it going! Parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors and older siblings are all invited to help! Don’t forget that Middle and High School students can use their volunteer hours for community service credit at their schools too.

Board Meeting August 18th –NEW LOCATION

The next San Elijo Hills Board of Directors meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 18th, 2015- 6:15PM at the San Elijo Hills REC Center: 1105 Elfin Forest Road, San Marcos 92078. Volunteers will meet in the Town Square (by the fountain) of San Elijo Hills at 9:00AM. Walk-ups are welcome but pre-registration helps us with site logistics, so if you know for sure you want to help, please register online at http://bit.ly/1s3MgoG.

Special Instructions: All volunteers should wear comfortable closed toed shoes and sun protection. You can help reduce waste by bringing your own reusable water bottle, and gardening or work gloves. Note: every participant in CCD needs to sign a waiver; anyone under the age of 18 needs a parent or guardian signature to participate! Students are eligible for community service hours, and prizes will be given out for the most trash collected!

Community Yard Sale:

The community-wide yard sale is back!

It’s time to decide what you can live without! Pull out your price stickers because the San Elijo Hills Community Association is sponsoring a community-wide yard sale. All residents are welcome to participate in this FREE event!

The yard sale will be held on Saturday, September 26th from 7:00AM-11:00AM. The yard sale will be promoted to the public so expect many shoppers! Directional signage will be placed out the morning of the sale to direct yard-salers to the individual neighborhoods.

Do you only have a few items to sell? Join up with your neighbors to create one mega-sale!

Please note, there will be NO MAPS distributed indicating which individuals homes are participating. Please feel free to add additional signage in the community after 8:00PM the night before (Friday 9/25/15) so long as it is removed promptly after the event.

Save the Date: Block Party in the Town Square: September 11, 2015

Summer has ended, and the new school year is beginning, which can mean only one thing…..BLOCK PARTY! What better way to welcome your newest neighbors and catch up with your favorite friends! Let’s celebrate our award-winning community, and bring everyone together!

Getting the party started will be a live DJ, dancers, dance floor, music and lights! We will have interactive games (for all ages!), contests, prizes and more! Only one way to find out…come join us!

A local fire truck and ambulance will be on the scene for your enjoyment!

Food and beverages are also just steps away! Enjoy one of the local eateries or grab a bite from one of the delicious food trucks.
