Movie in the Park-Part I

The San Elijo Hills Community Association is hosting a FREE showing of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (rated PG) as part of our summer movie series Friday June 9th at the lower softball field of San Elijo Hills Park!

The year is 1936. An archeology professor named Indiana Jones is venturing in the jungles of South America searching for a golden statue. Unfortunately, he sets off a deadly trap but miraculously escapes. Then, Jones hears from a museum curator named Marcus Brody about a biblical artifact called The Ark of the Covenant, which can hold the key to humanly existence. Jones has to venture to vast places such as Nepal and Egypt to find this artifact. However, he will have to fight his enemy Rene Belloq and a band of Nazis in order to reach it.

For our younger audiences, we will be showing a 30 minute compilation of Looney Tunes prior to the main feature!

Pre-show activities (including bounce houses, a sticky wall and more!) will begin at 6:00PM and the Looney Tunes will start after sunset (around 8:30PM) with the main feature beginning at approximately 9:00 PM.

Remember to bring your low-back beach chairs and blankets for lawn seating.

This year we will provide free popcorn! The San Elijo Hills Foundation will provide food trucks and will have a variety of food & refreshments for purchase.

Date has changed!! Foam Party in the Town Square

Come join us in the town square park for a foam party! Dr. Bronner’s Foam truck will be coming out on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. for a free foam party! The foam is biodegradable and made simply from organic soap, water and compressed air. Take the family down for music, foam, and fun! Bring your towels, bathing suits and goggles or come as you are!

A Fresh Coat for a Fresh Start

How closely have you look at your homes paint lately? Many homes in the community are beginning to show their age with faded, discolored, and peeling paint facades and fences. It is important to keep your home looking its best by having those areas power-washed and painted on a regular basis.

Did you know we now have paint color booklets for each neighborhood? With current palettes and some suggested palettes, you can refresh your homes look by visiting the onsite office for ideas. All painting requires the submission of an application and approval by the Architectural Committee. But it’s an easy process and we would love to assist you through it!

Interested in a group discount? With enough committed residents, the HOA can facilitate group discounts with reputable paint companies. Please email us at sehstaff@waltersmanagement.com to get on the interest list. Let us know what you are interested in painting (i.e. whole house, trim/shutters/doors only, fence only, etc.).

Save the Date: Summer BBQ and Concert – July 1, 2017!

Come down and celebrate our summer spectacular! This all American themed carnival will entertain our residents of all ages with music, carnival games, prize booth with tons of prizes, obstacle course, bounce houses, zip line, rock wall, and much more!

Document your experience with a keepsake, and visit our photo booth! If you are hungry during all that fun, fill up on BBQ chicken, BBQ pulled pork, hot dogs, salad, fruit and other yummy classics!

Featuring The Mighty Untouchables!! Bring your chairs, blankets, sit back and enjoy the concert!

There is no need to go anywhere when you can hang out in your own neighborhood and celebrate the Holiday weekend San Elijo Hills style! This event will take place on Saturday July 1, 2017 at 5 pm to 9 pm at the upper softball field of San Elijo Hills Park!

Please remember to bring proof of residency to gain entrance into the event (i.e.: driver’s license with on-site address, utility bill, HOA statement, etc.). Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow you to enter the event without verifying residency. No guests will be permitted.

The Jonville Team 12th Annual Community Garage Sale and Charity Event

May 20th, 2017. 7:00am – 11:00am held at the San Elijo Hills and Old Creek Ranch located at 1501 San Elijo Rd South #101, San Marcos, CA 92078.

This annual event, produced by the Jonville Team – the area real estate experts in North County- is designed to utilize a community-wide garage sale and spring cleaning fever to raise money for local charities. Last year, over 120 homes in the communities of San Elijo Hills and Old Creek Ranch participated in the garage sale for a small $10.00 donation fee, with 100% of the proceeds going to local charities. This year, all the proceeds from participating homes will go to Straight from the Heart- Helping Foster Children across the County and Casa De Amparo: a local charity recognized as a leader in treating and preventing child abuse and neglect in San Diego County and beyond, with locations in Oceanside and San Marcos. The non-profit organization annually serves over 1,000 Casa Kids, from prenatal to 25 years old, as well as over 700 families, through six integrated programs that promote healing, growth, and healthy relationships.

In addition to the event charities, every year many neighbors join forces and combine their garage sale items to raise money for their own causes – raising funds for sports teams and their own social causes, for example. The fundraising isn’t confined to just garage sale items, a handful of bake sales can also be found throughout the community to feed hungry shoppers.

It is an ideal event to find fantastic bargains and unique items in one location. Shoppers can pick up a map of participating homes in designated spots around San Elijo Hills the day of the event.

Open House Sign Policy

The San Elijo Hills Community Association has a very specific sign policy in place regarding Open House signs in the community implemented to keep our community beautiful! The San Elijo Hills Community Association’s governing documents prohibit the display of any non-Association signs in the Common Area. The intent of the San Elijo Hills Open House Sign Policy is to (1) provide an acceptable means for homeowners to market homes for sale within the community; (2) reduce the number of open house signs used in the community; and (3) discourage the ‘alternative’ means of signage that have been used in the past (sign spinners, signs on cars, etc).

It is your responsibility as the homeowner to notify your agent of the policy prior to putting out their signage. If it does not follow the guidelines, it will be removed and disposed of. The Open House Policy can be found on our website www.sanelijohills.net for your convenience. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Mardi Gras 2017

The San Elijo Hills Community Association would like to cordially invite our residents 21 and over to our Mardi Gras Party at Café Stoked! The event will be held on Friday, February 10th at 6:00 PM.

Residents will be delighted with delicious food, music, dancing and contests in the true spirit of New Orleans!

Attendance to this event is limited! Cost is $5.00/person. You must provide a check (no cash) payable to San Elijo Hills to Liz McCardle in the San Elijo Hills Onsite Office in order to reserve your spot! All reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Graffiti-Update!

It was brought to our attention that several arrests were made the end of January in connection with the recent graffiti vandalism.

If you witness any graffiti within the community, please contact the City of San Marcos. Below is information off the City’s website:

The City of San Marcos removes graffiti on public and private property within 24-48 hours of being reported. If you have graffiti on your property, and you need assistance in removing it, please contact our graffiti hotline (760) 591-9100.

Download a Graffiti Authorization Form: http://www.san-marcos.net/home/showdocument?id=66 . After printing the authorization form, please mail back to the address indicated on the form or you can fax it back to (760) 744-9520.

• Graffiti cleanup is a top priority in The City of San Marcos. The city employs a full-time graffiti removal team.
• Graffiti is the most common type of property vandalism (35%) according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
• Immediate removal – within 24-48 hours – is the key to successful graffiti prevention.
• Please contact the Sheriff’s Department to report suspicious activity at 510-5200.

The City prosecutes vandals when arrests have been made.

San Elijo Hills Onsite Office

Car Burglaries

It has been brought to the Association’s attention that car burglaries and vandalism are on the rise in San Elijo Hills. We found great resources on sdsheriff.net. Here are some tips off of their website:

Help Prevent Vehicle Theft
Car thieves, like home burglars, look for easy targets. Car owners obligingly leave doors unlocked, windows open, or their keys in the vehicle. Criminals usually DO NOT want to be seen, heard, or take an excessive amount of time to break in.

PREVENTION CHECKLIST- DO YOU…?
□ Lock your vehicle
□ Lock your windows
□ Take your keys with you
□ Remove your garage remote
□ Set your alarm
□ Remove number codes from your keys
□ Lock vent windows (trucks)
□ Leave only your ignition key when having your vehicle serviced
□ Remove spare keys hidden on or in your vehicle. Consider a spare key in your wallet
□ Park and lock your vehicles in garages when possible. Remove personal information such as driver license, registration etc, from unattended vehicles.
□ Carry a copy of your registration in your wallet for ease of identification in case of emergency or theft
□ Know your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
□ Use additional identification methods such as “Data Dots,” engravers, and dye markers
□ Place additional identification marks in several places such as tailgates, spoilers, and under the hood
□ Take a picture of your car with the plate number visible. Etch VIN numbers into all windows.

Help Prevent Vehicle Burglary
Preventing thieves from breaking into your vehicle to steal valuables is very difficult. If you want to protect your personal property, DO NOT leave it in your car.

PREVENTION CHECKLIST-DO’S and DON’Ts…
□ Do not leave purses, wallets, laptops, expensive sun glasses, cell phones and other valuables in
your vehicle
□ Never leave valuables in plain sight
□ Lock all valuables in the trunk or take them with you
□ Remove detachable stereos and faceplates from your vehicle every time
□ Never leave CASH visible.
□ Always lock your doors
□ Always lock your windows
□ Take your keys with you every time
□ Take purses and wallets inside your house after you lock and park your car in your garage
□ When equipment or tools must be kept in a vehicle, use a strong-walled, tamper proof box that can be bolted down and secured with heavy duty locks. Do not assume a box is secure because it is heavy

PARK CAREFULLY
• Use all the security measures available to you, wherever you park, even in your garage.
• At home, the best place to park is a well secured garage with car doors locked and alarm set. Secure your garage as if you had $20,000.00 cash sitting inside.
• Vehicles are 5 times more likely to be stolen from unattended parking lots than from the street or an attended lot.
• At work and in commercial areas try to park in well-lit areas, close to entrances, and near pedestrian traffic.
• Turn your wheels sharply and apply the emergency brake when parking to deter unauthorized towing.
• Lock your door and windows when parking in your driveway.

SECURITY DEVICES AND ALARMS
No security device is foolproof, but good vehicle security can greatly reduce your chances of becoming a victim. Consider installing at least two of the following security devices on your vehicle.
• Stolen Vehicle Recovery System (SVRS) to assist law enforcement with tracking and recovery.
• A kill switch or cut-off switch (an electrical device that effectively immobilizes the vehicle, even if the ignition has been forced. It prevents electrical current from reaching the coil distributor).
• Alarm devices with visible L.E.D. indicators that activate a siren, horn, lights – or all three.
• Visible L.E.D. alarm indicator
• Fuel switch to prevent fuel from reaching the carburetor.
• Device that attaches to the steering wheel or brake pedal.
• Auxiliary locking devices for window wings, sliding windows, spare tires and the hood.
• Interior hood and trunk releases.
• Locking gas cap.
• Tapered door lock buttons.
• A good quality steering wheel locking device.
• A circular metal band, or “collar” to protect the ignition lock from tampering.
• Self arming and anti code-grabbing alarm features
