Farm Tour Day Satisfying the Craving for Local Agriculture

Farmers will open their gates and give tours of their farms, showcasing San Diego County’s diverse agriculture during the seventh annual Farm Tour Day, on September 17th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hosted by the San Diego County Farm Bureau, this event is an opportunity for locals to spend a day in the country, in their own backyard.

The tour is mapped in and around Fallbrook and Valley Center, where we will feature six unique farms. Crops and products include vegetables, cut flowers, wine grapes, avocados, citrus, native plants and more. Attendees set their own tour schedule by driving themselves to each farm to experience a day of rural fun.

This is an opportunity to get into and explore farms that are not typically open to visitors and guests. See how food and flora are grown, how it gets from the farm to the store, and learn tricks of the trade from the farmers themselves. A nearly two-billion dollar industry in San Diego County, farming is a key part of our local culture, yet is unseen by the majority of residents.

Purchase tickets and find more information here: www.sdfarmbureau.org/FarmTour.

The San Diego County Farm Bureau is a non-profit organization supported by more than 2,500 dues-paying members. The mission of the Farm Bureau is to represent San Diego agriculture through public relations, education, and public policy advocacy in order to promote the economic viability of agriculture balanced with appropriate management of natural resources.

San Elijo Elementary Wine Wall Donations

The Fall Parent Event on Friday, September 30t at Twin Oaks is quickly approaching!  Back by popular demand, we will have another Wine Wall that evening and we can use your donations.  Here’s some information on how you can participate:

What is a Wine Wall?

Parents and businesses donate white and red wines that retail between $12 and $15 a bottle and a few premium bottles that retail $25 and over.  All bottles are concealed in their entirety and displayed at the Parent Event for purchase.  One bottle can be purchased for $15 or two bottles for $25.  100% of the profits go to support PTO programs at our school.

How can I participate?

Donate your favorite wine(s) that retail between $12 and $15 a bottle.  If you happen to be a wine connoisseur and have some premium bottles (retail for $25 or above) that you would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate those as well.

Where can I  leave my donation?

Please leave them in the Community Room (located next to the front office and nurse’s office) in the box marked” Wine Donations”.  Donations can be made beginning Wednesday, September 14th through Tuesday, September 27th.  If you would prefer to have your donations picked up,  please contact Michele Zamora directly at pmzamora@att.net.

The annual Adult Gala event will take place on Friday, February 4th at Twin Oaks Golf Course.  At that event SEE PTO will have the 2nd Annual Wine Wall!  For those of you who might be unfamiliar with the Wine Wall, here’s the scoop:

Parents donate bottles of wine with a $10 to $15 value.  PTO obtains some premium wine bottles donated by wine connoisseurs and The Wine Loft in Carlsbad.  The PTO wraps the bottles so the labels are not seen and the premium bottles are mixed with others.  Parents can purchase the wine bottles for $15 each or 2 for $25 at the event (not to be consumed at the event).

Last year, 67 bottles were donated and the PTO made $855.  This year we hope to acquire 100 bottles!

SEE PTO is  looking for wine donations of $10 to $15 per bottle.  Even if you don’t plan to attend the event you can still donate wine! Bottles can be dropped off in the Community Room at any morning at drop off or in the afternoon at pick up from Monday, January 10th through Thursday, January 20th.

If you have any questions, or if you happen to be one of those wine connoisseurs or a wine distributor and would like to donate a premium bottle(s) please contact SEE PTO at sees_volunteer@yahoo.com.
