Community Garage Sale
It’s time to decide what you can live without! Pull out your price stickers because the San Elijo Hills Community Association is sponsoring a community-wide garage sale. All residents are welcome to participate in this FREE event! The garage sale will be held on Saturday, September 6th from 7:00AM-11:00AM. The garage sale will be promoted to the public so expect many shoppers! Directional signage will be placed out the morning of the sale to direct garage-salers to the individual neighborhoods. Do you only have a few items to sell? Join up with your neighbors to create one mega-sale!
Please note, there will be NO MAPS distributed indicating which individuals homes are participating. Please feel free to add additional signage in the community after 8:00PM the night before (Friday 9/5/14) so long as it is removed promptly after the event.

Trails Clean Up Day
California Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) is scheduled for Saturday, September 20th from 9:00AM – 12:00PM. The San Elijo Hills trails system is a designated CCD area and we need volunteers!
The abundance of trails in our community is unique. Many developments from the early 2000’s followed the “sardine” method of community planning – after all, who needs trails when another house can go there? San Elijo Hills, however, was carefully planned to include significant open space and an 18-mile trail system. This is likely one of the qualities that attracted you to life in San Elijo Hills. We’re all invested in the trails. Whether you’re a regular trail user or not, your HOA dues pay for trail materials and maintenance. If we don’t change the habits of some, that cost is bound to increase. Just take a walk through your nearest trail – you’ll be shocked by how many of your neighbors have tossed their drink bottle in the bushes or left their pet waste neatly bagged up on the side of the trail for someone else to clean up.
So what can we do about it? The biggest impact and boldest statement we can make is to clean up the trails to bring attention to the deteriorating conditions and make it clear that they are considered a valuable asset to the community. To make this happen, the San Elijo Hills trails have been designated an official CCD cleanup site.
California Coastal Cleanup Day is a statewide beach and coastal and inland waterway cleanup held throughout California each year, part of the largest such cleanup in the country. CCD is a partnership between the California Coastal Commission, non-profit groups such as “I Love A Clean San Diego,” and cities and counties throughout the State. It is a major part of International Coastal Cleanup, which is facilitated by The Ocean Conservancy and includes many U.S. states and territories and over 70 countries. The City of San Marcos has also agreed to help our efforts. In other words, it’s a big deal.
So, please consider the value the trails provide to you and your family and help us make September 20th a successful cleanup day! We’re hoping it leaves a lasting impression for those less considerate members of our community to think twice before trashing our trails.

Walk-ups are welcomed but pre-registration helps us with site logistics, so if you know for sure you want to help, please register online. The team captains for our cleanup site are Kathy Jones and Rebecca Condello of the Trails Committee – an HOA committee made up of San Elijo Hills residents seeking to improve our trails. Volunteers will meet at 9:00AM on Saturday, September 20th in the Town Square. Meet at the park near San Elijo Hills Town Square across from Cafe Stoked, the closest address is 508 Elfin Forest Rd E, San Marcos, CA 92078.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: All volunteers should wear comfortable closed toed shoes and sun protection. Help reduce waste by bringing your own reusable water bottle, gardening or work gloves, and a bucket to collect litter. Note: every participant in CCD needs to sign a waiver; anyone under the age of 18 needs a parent or guardian signature to participate!
