Safety program teaches kids what to do in case of an emergency

A free eight-week class designed to teach children how to stay safe will get under way on Saturday, June 20 in San Marcos. The “Kidzwatch Academy” instructs children aged five to 11 about stranger danger, fire and water safety, community and nature awareness, and bike safety. It also covers the use of 911. A parent must accompany the child to each class. Classes run from 10 am to noon on eight consecutive Saturdays at various locations. Kidzwatch Academy is a partnership with the City’s crime prevention unit, fire department, lifeguards and the sheriff’s department. The deadline to apply for the program is Wednesday, June 17.
