San Elijo Life™—Your Community Connection Since 2006
What Is San Elijo Life, and How Can I Participate?
San Elijo Life is the community website for news, events, local businesses, schools, dining, real estate, trails, and everything happening in San Elijo Hills and the surrounding San Marcos community.
We have lived in San Elijo Hills since 2004 and created San Elijo Life in 2006 out of our love for “Life in the Hills.” Our goal is to keep residents informed, connected, and involved by sharing timely local information, community stories, photos, videos, events, and ideas.
San Elijo Life is independently owned and operated. We are not affiliated with the San Elijo Hills Community Association, the HOA management company, the original developer, or the City of San Marcos. The website is supported by local advertising and sponsorships.
We welcome news tips, photos, guest articles, community questions, event announcements, and participation from our readers.

How to Participate
San Elijo Life is powered by the participation of local residents. We encourage our readers to share what they see, what they know, and what matters to them.
1. Report Breaking News
Did you hear or witness something happening in the community? Email message our Facebook Page, or post in the private residents’ group.
Your report can be as simple as: “Three fire trucks just went by with their sirens on. Does anyone know what is happening?” Other residents may be able to add helpful information as the situation develops.
For emergencies, always call 911 first.
2. Share a Community Story
Do you know about something interesting happening in San Elijo Hills or San Marcos? If it matters to you, it will probably interest your neighbors too.
Send us the details, photos, and relevant links by email or direct message. We do our best to review and share timely community information quickly.
3. Join the Conversation
Add your knowledge and perspective to stories posted on SanElijoLife.com, our public Facebook Page, or the private San Elijo Life Facebook Group.
You may have an answer to a neighbor’s question, additional information about a local issue, or personal experience that helps the community better understand what is happening.
Please keep conversations respectful, constructive, and focused on the community.
4. Submit a Guest Post or Opinion
Have an informed opinion about a local issue? We welcome thoughtful guest articles and opinion pieces from residents.
Submissions should generally be between 500 and 1,000 words. Writers must be willing to publish their names, and all submissions are subject to review and approval by San Elijo Life. Opinion pieces may not be used to promote a business, product, political candidate, or campaign.
We also welcome community features, student journalism, local history, outdoor stories, photography, and recurring lifestyle columns. Photos are strongly encouraged.
5. Submit an Event
Tell us about an upcoming community, school, nonprofit, civic, outdoor, or local business event.
Please include:
- Event name
- Date and time
- Location
- Host or sponsoring organization
- Cost and registration information
- Website or contact information
- Photo, flyer, or logo
Please clearly identify who is hosting the event. San Elijo Life shares community events but does not produce most of them. Some San Elijo Hills HOA events may be limited to residents and their guests.
6. Ask a Local Question
Curious about San Elijo Hills history, development, schools, trails, local government, HOA responsibilities, or something happening around the neighborhood?
Email your question to hillslocal@sanelijolife.com, message our Facebook Page, or ask your neighbors in the private San Elijo Life Facebook Group. A simple question can lead to a helpful community conversation.
7. Tell a Neighbor
If a friend shares a great local photo, tells you about breaking news, or has a thoughtful perspective on a community issue, encourage them to send it to San Elijo Life.
We have many new residents who are still learning how San Elijo Hills works and which organization is responsible for what. By sharing reliable information and helping one another, we can build a more informed and connected community.
