Student E-Bike Safety Workshop Coming to Double Peak School September 22
San Elijo Hills families have a nearby opportunity to learn about bicycle and e-bike safety—and for students to earn a San Marcos Unified School District riding permit. A workshop led by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office will take place at Double Peak School on Tuesday, September 22, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The workshops are offered by San Marcos Unified in collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office and the City of San Marcos. They cover rider safety and align with the city’s e-bike ordinance, which requires e-bike riders to be at least 12 years old. After completing a workshop, students receive SMUSD permit stickers for their bike and helmet.

- Tuesday, September 15, 4:30–5:30 p.m. — La Mirada Academy, 3697 La Mirada Drive
- Tuesday, September 22, 4:30–5:30 p.m. — Double Peak School, 111 San Elijo Road
- Tuesday, September 29, 5–6 p.m. — San Marcos Middle School, 650 W. Mission Road
- Tuesday, October 6, 5–6 p.m. — Woodland Park Middle School, 1270 Rock Springs Road
Students can attend any session, regardless of which school they attend. They must bring a parent or guardian, their bicycle or e-bike, and a helmet. The Sheriff’s Office workshop listing does not list an advance-registration requirement or fee. Questions can be sent to Communications@smusd.org.
San Marcos Mayor and City Council Candidate Forum Set for October 1
San Marcos residents will have an opportunity to hear from candidates for mayor and City Council at a public forum on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Mission Hills High School Theater, 1 Mission Hills Court.
The forum is free and open to the public. Residents can submit questions in advance; the Chamber’s board of directors will review and select the questions asked during the event. The Chamber says there will be no live audience questions or participation.
For San Elijo Hills residents, the forum is a chance to hear directly from people seeking to represent San Marcos and learn about their priorities before the election.

City of San Marcos Calendar of Events
San Marcos Fire Department Open House
- When: Saturday, October 3, 2026, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
- Where: San Marcos Fire Station No. 1, 180 W. Mission Road, San Marcos, CA 92069
- Host: San Marcos Fire Department
- Why it matters: The annual open house gives residents direct access to local firefighters, emergency equipment, fire-prevention education and children’s activities—especially timely during wildfire season.
- Admission: No admission fee or advance registration requirement is listed.
San Marcos Halloween Spooktacular
- When: Saturday, October 3, 2026, 4–8 p.m.
- Where: Williams Barn at Walnut Grove Park, 1950 Sycamore Drive, San Marcos, CA 92069
- Host: City of San Marcos Parks & Recreation
- Why it matters: The citywide family celebration returns for its second year with a free dance party, costume parade and crafts, plus games, inflatables and Halloween activities.
- Tickets: General admission and core festivities are free. Activities cost $1 each. Optional advance registration offers a $10 bundle with 10 activity tickets and a complimentary mini trick-or-treat tote while supplies last.
