Balloons flew as residents gathered in the parking lot behind the San Elijo Hills visitor’s center Sept. 14 to dedicate the site of a future church.

A line of parents pushing strollers crossed the street and made its way past greeters distributing pamphlets that showed a rendering of a New England-style structure — the planned Church of the Hills.

“I would like to take this time to thank Church of the Hills for the work that you all have done in meeting the spiritual needs of the residents of the community,” said Curt Noland, director of development for San Elijo Hills and vice president of HomeFed Corp., the community’s development company.

He explained to the crowd that the church helps complete the developers’ vision of having a community in which all the residents’ needs are met in one location.

The church began in the home of San Elijo Hills resident and Senior Pastor Raymond van Pletson in 2004 as an affiliate of Daybreak Community Church in Carlsbad.READ THE ENTIRE Today’s Local News article
