Two fires burned at the start of San Marcos Cocos Fire

In recent news coverage of the teenage girl suspected of intentionally setting the Cocos fire in May 2014 that burned 2,000 acres in San Marcos, California and destroyed or damaged more than 40 structures. Media coverage talks about two fires: The Washingtonia and Cocos Fire.

San Elijo Life has learned that the 1st fire started on Washingtonia Drive and was in the process of being extinguished by the San Marcos Fire Department crews when embers jumped and started the 2nd Cocos fire. San Marcos Fire Crews had also extinguished a fire in the Washingtonia Drive location the day before.
