Lots of new shopping opportunities are working their way into San Marcos. Closest to San Elijo Hills is a small retail center at the intersection of Melrose Dr. and Sparrow Lane. It will have about 18,400 sq. ft. of retail space in two buildings. It is still in the planning stages and was up for city council approval at the end of July. The retail center is not large enough to house a grocery store, but could house a smaller convenience store, restaurant, dry cleaner or similar businesses. A new retail development off of Las Posas will be home to Nordstrom Rack as well as some additional discount retailers. In addition, a large development is in the works just south of Highway 78 near Cal State San Marcos. One of the rumored additions to that area is Ikea. However, discussions are still very premature. Keep an eye on local new sources and city council efforts to stay in the loop on the latest.
