Construction of Civic Center Plaza, a new $12 million, 60,000-square-foot retail center adjacent to the San Marcos Civic Center, is under way. The 5.92-acre, four-building development is located at the northeast quadrant of Highway 78 and Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos. The project is sited next to the planned Sprinter light rail station, near the new Twin Oaks Valley Road expansion, which extends south into the master-planned community of San Elijo Hills. Civic Center Plaza will be anchored by LA Fitness Sports Club, which just signed a 15-year lease valued at over $14 million for 43,000 square feet. The project features retail, restaurant and food court space with a large outdoor seating area and parking. Civic Center Plaza is being developed by The McDonald Group. The San Diego-based developer also built the Gateway at San Marcos and the North County Corporate Center office complexes located nearby. Kirk Allison and Vic Gausepohl of Colliers International comprise the marketing team for the Civic Center Plaza. Bycor Construction is the general contractor. Nadel Retail Group provided architectural services. Completion is scheduled for first quarter 2007.
