New route opens to traffic Sept. 6
SAN MARCOS: A major road extension connecting the southern part of Twin Oaks Valley Road southwest to San Elijo Road will open to traffic Sept. 6, officials said yesterday.
The extension will provide a more direct route between California State University San Marcos and San Elijo Hills, a large development.
Currently, the only way to get from one to the other is on Rancho Santa Fe Road – a much longer route.
The city has been extending Twin Oaks Valley south, while the developer of San Elijo Hills has been lengthening San Elijo Road to the east.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at Twin Oaks Valley Road just south of Craven Road.
Refreshments will be served. The public will also get a chance to bike or hike the two-mile extension at 9 a.m. Sept. 1. Minors must be accompanied by adults. Participants can park along Twin Oaks Valley Road near Village Drive.
