School district officials have begun showing early drafts of San Marcos Unified’s proposed

attendance boundaries for the upcoming school year.

The plan mostly would affect elementary schools, and possibly two middle schools. Attendance boundaries will stay the same at high schools.

Changes must be made because the San Marcos Unified School District is opening a new school in August, called Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary School. The 22-acre campus is at Oleander and Poinsettia avenues, just outside the city of San Marcos, and will serve about 800 children.

Attendance boundaries have to be drawn for Leichtag, the district’s 11th elementary school, said Len Judd, assistant superintendent of human resources. As a result, boundary revisions are expected for eight of the district’s 10 elementary schools, Judd said, in some cases to reduce crowding. CLICK HERE TO READ THE ENTIRE UT ARTICLE

  1. As a homeowner in Mariner’s Landing, I am very concerned over the possibility that my children will not be able to attend SEE. We were sold on the neighborhood, schools and towncenter. I am confused how a master planned community can have overcrowding probelms. They knew how many houses were going in. With a few thousand homes still to be built, how did the developers expect to accomodate all the kids? Did they only build half a school? Let’s hope this works itself out without beaking apart our little town.
