Tennis facility planned-clipped from UT
San Elijo Hills, an upscale enclave of about 3,500 homes east of La Costa, would become the site of a tennis club and sports training facility if Andy Farmer’s plans are realized. Farmer, 42, a former touring pro and currently director of the West Coast Tennis Academy, said he has purchased land and gained a conditional use permit from the city of San Marcos for his project. Plans call for a pool, seven courts and for what he said would be a training facility meant for high-level athletes. “Training is hard,” Farmer said. “Kids get to a certain level and they say, ‘Let me try something else.’ It comes down to work ethic. That’s what I’m trying to change. I call it commitment.” Farmer has been operating his West Coast Tennis Academy at the Bobby Riggs Tennis Club in Encinitis and at the El Camino Country Club in Oceanside. For seven years, Farmer was an instructor at the Harry Hopman International Tennis Academy in Florida, now known as Saddlebrook.
