Pavement improvements to several heavily traveled roadways in San Marcos will begin on Monday, July 28. Improvement work will continue into early September. The work is being done to improve the ride quality and to extend asphalt pavement life on important thoroughfares in the City.

Work will take place on the following roadway segments:

  • Rancho Santa Fe, between Broken Rock Road and Highway 78
  • San Marcos Boulevard, between Rancho Santa Fe Road and Twin Oaks Valley Road
  • Grand Avenue, between San Marcos Boulevard and Rancho Santa Fe Road
  • Twin Oaks Valley Road, between Highway 78 and San Marcos Boulevard and between Craven Road and Barham Drive

Much of the road work will take place during off-peak traffic periods including weekends, nights and in-between weekday morning and afternoon rush hours in order to minimize the impact on traffic. Although the roadways will remain open, there will be lane closures during construction.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use caution when traveling in these areas.

The first phase of the improvement work will include micromilling the street surface. Micromilling is a process that smoothes the road surface to improve ride quality. Once the micromilling is complete, crews will apply a slurry seal to preserve and protect the pavement.
