The City of San Marcos will present its 17th Annual Trails Day on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 from 9 am to noon beginning at the south end of Santa Barbara Street. This event is free and held each year to promote the extensive trail system in San Marcos. Participants will choose from 3‐, 5.5‐ or 7‐mile hikes of varying difficulty and will have special access to trails not usually open to the public. There will also be a 5.5‐mile equestrian course offered. Riders must bring their own horse. “This annual event draws hundreds of hikers and equestrian enthusiasts to San Marcos to explore the great outdoors and enjoy the beautiful trails in our community,” explained Community Services Director Craig Sargent‐Beach. “The hikes offer amazing views of South Lake and Double Peak along with sweeping views of the City.” To reach the trailhead from Highway 78, take Twin Oaks Valley Road and go south; turn right on Craven Road and left on Santa Barbara Street. Community services staff and volunteers will assist with registration, refreshment/aid stations and the Friends of San Marcos Parks and Trails membership drive. Partnerships for San Marcos Trails Day are still available. For more information, please call Recreation Supervisor Cathy Cronin at (760) 744‐9000, ext. 3504.
