SAN MARCOS — Double Peak Regional Park officially broke ground Wednesday morning in San Marcos. With its 360-degree view from the inland mountain ranges to the Pacific Ocean, the only tough part for visitors will be deciding which way to face. “It’s got the best view in town,” said Craig Sargent-Beach, the city’s community services director. “On a clear day, you can see all the way down to Coronado, and then up to San Clemente.”
Mayor Jim Desmond praised the park’s location, which connects with the ridgeline and Discovery Lake trails. The park will include San Marcos’ first live-in ranger station. It will house Ron Vinluan, the city’s only full-time ranger. “This could become what we call the crown jewel of our park system, not just because it’s a beautiful view but also because it’s so high,” City Councilman Mike Preston said. “I think it’s fair to say that this park will have some of the best views in North County once it’s completed.” READ MORE viaUT Work begins on regional park that has ‘best view in town’.
