SAN MARCOS, Calif. — A half-dozen elementary children at San Elijo Elementary School caught chicken pox, marking the second cluster of the disease discovered in a week in San Diego County, the Health and Human Services Department reported Friday.
The five fourth-graders and one third-grader had only one vaccination dose for the disease instead of the two shots that are recommended, according to the HHSA.
“This is the second chicken pox cluster in a week, which highlights the need for children to get the necessary vaccinations,” said Dr. Dean Sidelinger, the deputy county public health officer. “Parents should check with their physicians to make sure their children are vaccinated against chicken pox and other preventable diseases,” he said.
