Officials from the City of San Marcos, California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), Palomar College and San Marcos Unified School District will speak on the future of education in San Marcos during the Mayor’s Education Forum on Thursday, September 10. The forum’s theme is “Pathways to Success” and will be held at The McMahan House, a newly opened conference facility at CSUSM, 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road from 6 to 7:30 pm. The public is welcome to attend.
Mayor Jim Desmond will address the theme of the evening by discussing economic development efforts to create jobs for grads; improvements to roadways, parks and trails to help support the educational foundation of San Marcos; and the future of the University District development.
“This forum is a great opportunity to bring the policy makers from the City and the education community together to share ideas and aspirations for the future of San Marcos,” said Mayor Desmond.
Cal State San Marcos President Karen S. Haynes, who will also be speaking, said “I am pleased to join Mayor Desmond, President Deegan and Superintendent Holt for an evening to think together about the important role of public education in the future of San Marcos and this region. Each of these educational institutions makes its own unique contribution to the landscape of public education. Together, we have the opportunity to prepare a new generation of leaders and citizens who will serve our state. More than ever before, education provides the foundation for the economic, cultural and social advancement.”
Due to limited seating, please RSVP at (760) 744-1050, ext. 3118. Parking will be available on campus. The forum will be re-broadcast on San Marcos Community Television (Cox Communications Channel 19, Time Warner Cable Channel 24 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99) as well as on the City’s Web site after the event takes place.
