Motorists traveling on San Marcos surface streets on Thursday, Dec. 9 may experience heavy traffic conditions when the California Highway Patrol (CHP) closes Interstate 15 at 9 am. It is unknown at this time how long the closure will last, but it is estimated to be at least three hours.

The freeway will be closed to southbound traffic at Center City Parkway (just north of El Norte) and to northbound traffic at State Route 78. A detour will be placed directing traffic to exit both north and southbound to Center City Parkway, which runs parallel to I-15. San Marcos’ traffic engineers are adjusting signal timings along Twin Oaks Valley Road and other major arterials to help expedite traffic flow on Thursday.

The freeway closure is part of the emergency management plan associated with burning down the so-called “bomb factory” house found in Escondido last month.
