You will see a lot of construction on the San Elijo Elementary campus during the summer and into next year. Lusardi Construction Company is working 6 days a week, 10 hours days to get ready for the opening of school August 24th.
As a temporary fix to accommodate increasing school population, 4 new portables are being added to the black top, near the existing 5th grade portables. For the long-term, construction on a new two-story building will start in January 2012. The new building will be locate near the lunch tables. The lunch area will also be increased in size. To accommodate the new building, the play structure next to the lunch tables will be moved closer to the other play structure. Also, two new KOC portables will be added next to the existing KOC area.
There will also be many new parking and traffic enhancements made next year. A left turn lane will be added on Schoolhouse Way, as well as more parking spaces. Current parking lot will be increased in size and the area in front of the school where students wait for pick up will be made larger. Funding for all of these enhancements, except for the KOC portables, which are funded by the KOC budget, is coming from developer fees and redevelopment funds.
