The San Marcos Fire Department will host an open house for the public on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 am to 2 pm at Fire Station No. 1, 180 W. Mission Road. This free event will give the community an opportunity to visit a local fire station and talk with firefighters to learn more about the San Marcos Fire Department and fire safety.
Numerous events are planned for the open house that will appeal to children and adults. Children will have an opportunity to dress up in firefighter clothing; practice “Stop, Drop and Roll;” and use a fire hose. Adults will be able to use a fire extinguisher on an actual fire and receive helpful fire safety information. Free child fingerprinting will also be available.
“Last year, we had more than 1,700 people attend the open house,” said San Marcos Fire Chief Todd Newman. “We hope to draw a large crowd again this year to help spread the word about fire safety in San Marcos.”
