Jake Smith, a resident of San Elijo Hills, signing his letter of intent to play baseball for Doane College. He proves dreams can come true if you work hard in the classroom and on the field.

Jake is a senior at SMHS and has been in the district since kindergarten starting off at Carrillo then onto San Elijo Middle School and finishing at San Marcos High. As a freshman he took honors classes and played 3 sports, JV water polo, freshmen basketball and JV baseball. He finished the rest of his years there taking honors classes along with 7 AP classes. Jake played all of his last 3 years on the Varsity water polo team, two years as a captain, and another year on JV baseball, finishing the last 2 years on Varsity baseball. This year he is one of the Varsity baseball captains as well and was also part of the Honor Society, Academic Team and Mudslingers Club.

Jake had offers from UCSD and Occidental College as well as from Doane. He also was accepted at UC Davis and Chico State. He picked Doane because of its academic and athletic strength and of its location. He is looking forward to experiencing life outside of California. Jake will receive scholarship money for baseball and for academics. On March 20th he was joined by family and friend while he signed his letter of intent with his High School Coach Jeff Dufek and with his new College Coach Jeremy Jorgensen.
