It’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet and get rid of old and unwanted prescription drugs. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will collect and safely dispose unwanted or expired medicines as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) sixth National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

This event is on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputies will be at the following locations:

•San Marcos – Kaiser Permanente Pharmacy

400 Craven Road, San Marcos

This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. We cannot accept sharps or needles.

Unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs have been determined to present substantial risks to our community by either falling into the wrong hands, or by damaging our environment through improper disposal. Prescription drugs are killing more San Diegans than ever before. According to the County’s Prescription Drug Abuse Report Card and the Medical Examiner’s Office, the number of people who died as a result of prescription drug abuse has increased over the past five years, from 211 in 2007 to 267 in 2011.
