Update from City of San Marcos
The Cocos Fire is currently 1,995 acres at 89 percent containment. Over the next several days, fire crews will continue to mop up and patrol fire lines for any new smoldering activity.
Currently, 39 homes have been lost in the regional area impacted by the Cocos Fire. This includes five destroyed and four damaged homes within the San Marcos city limits.
City residents whose homes were lost or damaged can visit San Marcos City Hall, 1 Civic Center Drive, where staff stands ready to assist. Residents living in the unincorporated county areas can visit the Recovery Liaison Office located at the San Marcos County Library, 2 Civic Center Drive. The recovery office will be open from 7 am to 5 pm daily and can assist affected homeowners in obtaining building permits, clearing ash from swimming pools, safely handle food after a power outage as well as other recovery and rebuilding information.
