San Diego County is facing a housing shortage. But this shortage is not because we lack land zoned for housing. County taxpayers spent 13 years and $18.6 million to develop our 2011 General Plan, which reflects extensive community input. Per state law, it designates sufficient land for housing to accommodate projected population growth.Deep-pocketed developers present a false choice, that the only way to get a roof over every head is to build sprawl-style developments in the middle of the countryside, where they’ve purchased land on the cheap with the hope of building it up for a handsome profit.
