Please read the correspondence below from The City of San Marcos Traffic Engineering Department regarding the no turn on red’ sign installed on Schoolhouse Way:
The signal at Schoolhouse Way & San Elijo Road has been configured and is now operational.
The previous static signs have been removed, and right-turn restrictions will now only be imposed if the crosswalk has been activated.
If there are no pedestrians in the crosswalk, right turns on red will be allowed. The city will continue to monitor the intersection from the Traffic Management Center in the next few weeks.
They are hopeful this operation balances safety and traffic progression effectively.
