Sharon Jenkins Announces Candidacy for Mayor of San Marcos
San Marcos, Calif. – August 1, 2025 – Longtime public servant and community leader Sharon Jenkins has announced her candidacy for Mayor of San Marcos, pledging to bring steady, experienced leadership to guide the city.
A familiar face in San Marcos leadership, Sharon’s experience includes 12 years on the City Council with 6 of those as Deputy Mayor. Prior to that she served 14 years on the San Marcos Unified School District Governing Board, helping shape the educational foundation of the district, and ensuring 5 new schools were built.
“For decades, I’ve worked alongside residents, educators, parents, and local leaders to help make San Marcos the city it is today,” said Jenkins. “As Mayor, I’ll continue that work with integrity, accountability, and a deep focus to do the right thing for San Marcos.”
Throughout her decades of service, Sharon has contributed to the vitality of San Marcos as an elected leader and as active volunteer, having supported 25 community organizations/efforts, including service on the boards of 11, and as a founding member of 6. Her efforts have spanned education, youth development, civic engagement, and support for vulnerable populations. Sharon’s most recent accomplishment was leading the Yes on Q Safe & Strong San Marcos committee, enabling the city to expedite the planning and construction of fire station #5.
Sharon’s experience and leadership has helped San Marcos become known as North County’s place to live, learn, work, and play. She brings a reputation for independent thinking, inclusive decision-making, a strong track record of results, and support across political party lines.
“As our city continues to grow and face new opportunities and challenges, I believe San Marcos deserves experienced, steady leadership,” Jenkins said. “I’m running for Mayor to ensure we continue to build a safe and strong San Marcos.
