$1 Million Match to Protect the Lands Around San Elijo Hills
There’s a special opportunity this year to help protect the landscapes that surround our community.
The Escondido Creek Conservancy, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary, has received an incredible $1 million matching gift challenge for 2026. Every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar to support conservation in the Escondido Creek watershed.
This watershed stretches from the ridgelines above Elfin Forest and San Marcos all the way to the Cardiff Reef, connecting important wildlife corridors, open space, and the natural areas many of us hike, ride, and explore every day.
In late 2025, the Conservancy expanded its presence in San Marcos with the purchase of the White-Atterbury property, a 160-acre site that includes Frank’s Peak, overlooking San Elijo Hills and Double Peak School. The property connects with the Harmony Heights Preserve, helping create an even larger protected corridor for wildlife.
Protecting land and maintaining open space takes long-term commitment and resources. The $1 million match is a rare opportunity to double the impact of every contribution.
If you enjoy the trails, wildlife, and open spaces around San Elijo Hills, please consider supporting this effort.
