Update from San Elijo Hills Community Association (HOA) Community Security Patrol
Due to ongoing security concerns at community parks and to deter crime in San Elijo Hills, the Board of Directors, along with the assistance of their Safety Committee, have signed a contract with Securitas to provide a dedicated and roaming security officer for San Elijo Hills on a trial basis.
For the next three months, Securitas will be driving in their patrol vehicle (white Toyota Corolla) throughout San Elijo Hills from 7 PM to 3:30 AM each day. (The vehicle’s amber light bar and San Elijo Hills Security graphics are still on order and are expected to be installed in the coming weeks). The security officer will be contacting individuals as necessary, and if a crime is witnessed, contacting the San Diego Sheriff’s Office (SDSO) to take additional action. The security officer’s route will consist of the community’s non-gated HOA neighborhoods and the following cost centers: Promontory Ridge, Azure/Saverne, Westcliffe, The Estates, The Summit. These neighborhoods and sub-HOA’s will not be patrolled: Belmont, Marketwalk, Creekside Cottages, Morgan’s Corner, Springfield, and Westridge.
At the end of the trial basis, the Board of Directors will decide if the effectiveness of the security officer warrants an extended monthly contract. If the contract is extended, the Board may vote to raise dues at their annual budget review for 2024 to fund this service to the community.
As a reminder, curfew in San Marcos is 11 PM – 6 AM daily. Questhaven Park hours are dawn to dusk. Anyone loitering outside of these hours will be contacted by the security officer and asked to vacate the premises. Any refusal to do so, or contacts with minors after curfew, will be transferred to the SDSO.
If you see something, say something! We want this trial run to be as effective as possible and put it to the test. To request the security officer’s assistance, please contact the security officer directly at 541-780-4196. However, Securitas should not be called in an emergency or if you are the victim of a crime in progress – you should still call 911.
Some examples of reasons to call Securitas:
- Suspicious persons or activity
- Trespassing at HOA parks after dusk
- Community security concerns
- Suspected curfew violations
Securitas will not be responding to the following concerns:
- Neighbor disputes or neighbor/pet noise complaints
- After-hours HOA related concerns
- Parking, landscaping, maintenance
For emergencies and crimes in progress call 911.
After-hours HOA common area concerns should still be directed to Walters Management’s after-hours support at 760-431-2522.
Any questions can be directed to Walters Management at [email protected]
