SAN MARCOS — A man died after he crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant while driving at a high rate of speed Sunday evening in San Marcos, according to a sheriff’s official.The crash happened at around 5:50 p.m. on San Elijo Road at Ledge Street, near a San Marcos fire station.For reasons still under investigation, the driver. who was heading west, left the road and crashed his Toyota RAV4 into a fire hydrant and a pedestrian signal pole, said sheriff’s Sgt. Charles Morreale.
